Stop Jack Frost before he bursts your pipes
Winter in Essex might not always mean snow, but it’s cold enough to cause chaos in your plumbing if you’re not careful. Frozen pipes can crack, burst, and flood your home faster than you can say “where’s the stopcock?” – but luckily, a few simple steps can stop that from happening.
1. Insulate your pipes
Pipes in lofts, garages or outside walls are the most at risk. Wrap them with pipe insulation (lagging) – it’s cheap, easy, and saves a lot of stress.
2. Keep a bit of warmth flowing
Don’t let your home get too cold. Even keeping the heating on low when you’re away can stop pipes from freezing. It’s cheaper than an emergency callout, trust us!
3. Know your stopcock
Make sure you know where it is (usually under the sink or stairs) so you can turn off the water fast if a pipe bursts.
4. Fix drips before they freeze
A tiny leak today can become a big burst tomorrow. If you’ve got a drip or damp spot, get it sorted before the cold weather hits.
5. Call your local plumber (that’s us)
If your pipes do freeze, don’t panic – gently warm them with a hairdryer (never a blowtorch) and give us a ring if things look serious.
At Blue8 Gas Services, we’ve helped plenty of Essex homeowners thaw out safely. A bit of prevention now means fewer frozen surprises later.
